A Small Boat by the Name of Abkhazia
24.04.2012 00:00
I sit on the beach, listening to the splashing of water at feet, and the evening’s fascination of Sukhum bay purifies the soul - a serene landscape makes passions of the last days almost unreal, highlighting absurdity against the backdrop of eternity. A subtropical nature and mild climate, one of the most comfortable in the world seemed to create almost ideal conditions for people - live and let others live, rejoice to the morning sun, and tops of mountains, being proud of history of antiquity and work for present to make your home country a civilized state, promoting respect from neighbors. What is happening to us?
Must we really kill each other for power and money in such a tiny country like Abkhazia, just beginning to stand on feet after years of bloody war and many years of blockade?
Are we missing democratic ways of choosing the government? Aren’t we proud of the fact that even the international community recognizes - in the electoral process Abkhazia achieved more progress than many post-Soviet countries?
We want to turn into a banana republic, where the military groups seize power in turn for their own personal interests?
These troubled days only a strict adherence to the law and balanced assessment of the situation from both the government and the society can save us. Otherwise, we can again be on the verge of civil war, as in 2004-2005.
We need objective information about what is happening, not to give rise to false rumors. Thus, only one prisoner was brought in a bag, wearing on his head because he was in narcotic state and strongly resisted during the arrest. All the others have not undergone this procedure, which provokes strong indignation in the society.
The silence of the government is surprising, as it did not comment on the situation. Let us remember what a painful perplexity caused Vladislav Ardzinba;s silence when in the mid 90's right on the main street of the capital were shot for no reason repatriates and distinguished warriors, brothers Kudzhba.
When the leadership is not trying to share the emotional tension in the society, the alienation appears fraught with unpredictable consequences.
In such difficult situations, a dialogue between the government and people should be open and sincere in helping ordinary people understand what is really happening. If we get only sparse information reports and an abundance of alarming rumors, we do create such a force field of mutual misunderstanding that you will wish it had never happened.
We are all in the same boat, called Abkhazia.
To shake such a small boat is totally simple..
Let's dance on instinct of self - preservation and common sense, following them peoples survive even in very hard conditions.
