30 August is marked as an International Day of Missing Persons. For the commemoration of this date on the Makhadzhirs Quay an opening of the small fountain took place. The author is the sculptor Arkhip Labakhua. After the opening of a symbolic monument at the quay there was held an exhibition of the pictures of missing people in the Central Exhibition Hall. Events for this day have been prepared with the participation of ICRC, the movement of "Mothers for Peace and Social Justice" and other public organizations of Abkhazia.
Today, at the first meeting of the National Assembly of the Parliament of Abkhazia of the fifth convocation a Speaker has been elected. It is Bganba Valery, a former MP of the last convocation. 21 deputies from 33 supported him. The opponent of Bganba, the leader of the opposition party FPU Raul Khajimba scored 11 votes.
